“Inconveniences Sequel” by Al Gore is hitting streets and airs in Berlin

Filed under: Uncategorized — Heiner Benking @ 8:24 pm

Yesterday all Berlin, starting with ZDF’ s morning television, was around AL GORE and his INCONVENIENT TRUTHES.  Maybe at least in some and circles and districs of BERLIN and elsewhere … with highlights at the ZOO Filmpalast and The ADLON. It is election times and alarmists, contrarians, and extrapolists behave like in shifting sands, in their sweet filter-bubble.

The event and film?: follow: and see TRAILER  &  German Trailer As always the reception is mixed. Maybe start here with LA TIMES.

The public will get access September 7th in BERLIN and elsewhere

The “Exclusive Screening” was as we are used around the red carpets, film stars and glitter of the BERLINALE. But the themes of societal and individual transformation are much, much deeper…. so come back later….

I felt that the movie world – but not the environmentally concerned, the transformation hype trendsetters, some societal movers and deep drivers were not on deck. Instead we had Volker Schlöndorff reflecting on the matter of:  FILM and RESPONSIBILITY. As you can see – a don’t miss – at least what we can get from PARAMOUNT and GETTY…

I jumped in on the “very last minute”  thanks to a great BMUB team. My report about AL and encounters since the 80ies is due. I will add a link here a.s.a.p. and maybe try a look backward, maybe 40 years…. as I am not an Extrapolist and Alarmist, but deeply concerned that we miss the issues, scales, proportions, and consequences. Me !? about GLOBAL and GLOCAL Change? Maybe start here: (1990 or 1991) – as this were the foundational years beside Stockholm 1972 in Germany in the late 80ies, early 90ies…. First this comes to mind: Vision Television – How do we communicate? 20 years ago early in his times in NYC Kofi Annan invited the Media Moduls, Civil Society,… to the UN discuss the challenges around the media and cybercultures. One of the most energetic large audiences I have experienced here:

Looking back we might be able to learn how such different “stakeholder”-gatherings can work and how different goals, intentions, scopes, … and agendas could not only be brought together, but can be boiled down to deep drivers and root-causes, where to interact and act (Leverage Points – Donella Maedows) ….

AGAIN: The event and the film?: follow:  and see TRAILER  &  German Trailer As always the reception is mixed. Maybe start here with LA TIMES.

The public will get access September 7th in BERLIN and elsewhere – join in !!  as we are approaching ELECTION TIMES in Germany….           hastily… come back !     HEiner

my collegues MANFRED RONZHEIMER has been putting some details about the new film together on his FB site: enjoy:

Magic Roundtable – revisited

Filed under: Uncategorized — Heiner Benking @ 10:48 am

After looking into facilitation and moderation the last 30+years it is time to revisit “time-sharing in meetings” and how to “stop the talkers”

Rules of the GAME:    past outcomes:  Bertalanffy Conference 2001  Voices from earlier events:

Talk   –  Communication:  VIDEO for the ENTREPRENEURSHIP SUMMIT:

Geneva Peace Platform (OSI_UN-Geneva) intro to Sharing and Gifting:

See the European Citizen Science Association (ECSA) Newsletter   and a broader coverage:  and maybe the OSI website.

Article, forthcoming in MOTHER PELICAN:  Magic Roundtables: Sharing and Gifting in traditional and modern Times – Sharing – Giving – Gifting – Appreciation – Attention – Co-Creation – Trading- Voting, …..   revisited

I recommend this resource page: and the 21stCenturyAgora.org website on myths around dialogue and would to underline that Dialog is just one of my intentions and activities. Please check this diagrame from the late Cop Macdonald.

Presently I am working on updating my MEDIUM page and the original INVITATION from July 2017 in Vienna. So please come back soon.

You might be interested to check out what we did around the SPEAKERS CORNER with reference to OCCUPY some years ago at the Brandenburg Gate:

or our ANNA LINDH SALON events over the years….  a more complete record of events can be found here.

or around The United Nations Democracy Fund and the Future Worlds Center: UNDEF: and FWC:

Let me close with a big success and some dramatic failures:

The Success was with the Europeans Commissions CAPS project presentations. CAPS – Collective Awareness Platforms for Sustainability and Social Innovation  Possible new research projects did not only present or “pitch” their project proposals, but invited to intensively learn from the “others” and negotiate potentials and challenges –  and maybe came to new, combined, advanced final proposals and hopefully great results.   Check outline and  CAPS 2016:         CAPS 2015:

2013: A tragic failure has been our efforts, working intensively and long for a Political Foundation in Germany, they have all the monies, collect ideas, but when it comes to testing and implementation – step back instead of risking moving forwards. Here is the Programe Invitation flyer: (maybe it was to early – or the wrong people at odd times??) Maybe we should try a re-run ! even under another “umbrella”?  The questions, issues, and means would fit well into our German National election today. 4 years later…

More on PARTICIPEDIA   and the First Virtual Congress on World Citizenship and Democratic Global Governance  – Discussion site with people and facilitators, leaders and members of world democracy movements (index).  The above paper is an Extract of: Dialogues and Conversations  –  Participation and Moderation/Mediation: Ways and Means towards Re-inventing Democracy and Good-Governance

AGAIN  A TOTAL FAILURE –  a whole website, yeas of efforts, all in the orcus as it looks like everybody want to “own”  his Democracy and ways and mean to share, gift, support towards common ends!   Please see the T-shirt above:  FAILURE AS POTENTIAL/CHANCE/CHALLENGE – “SCHEITERN ALS CHANCE – CHANCE 2000“. Maybe we should create DRAMA to make people confront issues some/they tend to ignore.

“Social Media in the Election – impacts of Facebook, Twitter and Bots?”

Filed under: Uncategorized — Heiner Benking @ 12:59 pm

ADLERELECTION TIMES – TODAY in the GERMAN PARLIAMENT looking into gatekeepers and crashers, magnetic portals, infowar, revolutions, knowbots and troyan horses, citoyens, micro-targetting, filters, echo-chambers, … in all aspects for the up-coming election. – check parliament television and and FORUM W http://www.bundestag.de/…/pre…/2017/pm-170711-w-forum/514772http://www.bundestag.de/mediathek I was sharing here ELECTION CIRCUS – CHANCE 2000 and more on election voting, sharing and gifting. Maybe see this as a starter SPEAKERS CORNER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzx5wXvAjbc to show that these issues are not new, not suddenly happened in Washington or London. I witnessed that TROYANS were the key topic at the Systems in Munich 30 years ago ! So who was sleeping? and what about media competences, capacities, skills, ends and who ever looks into “Can Implies Ought? I just wonder…..

PLEASE COME this thing is on and ONGOING !!

sdg-human-solidarityPRELIMINARY !!!   in view of SOLIDARITY DAY http://unog.ch/  today and EARTH DAY EQUINOX Mach 20, 2017

Below is a report OSIs 25th at the UN in Geneva Dec 12-17, 2016

Wednesday CITIZEN SCIENCES [link] and Thursday (HARMONY WITH NATURE)  were highlights beside the Networking Spaces the GENEVA FORUM and the Market Places:
* Pedagogy, Travel and Tourism for Peace and Development
* Participatory Research, Citizen Sciences and Fab Labs for Peace and Development
* Philanthropism for Peace and Sustainable Development
* CrowdInnovation, CrowdFunding, Smart Finance and Appropriate Technologies for Peace and Sustainable Development
* Rights of Nature for Peace and Sustainable Development

Here is the report of the CITIZEN SCIENCE DAY:

Thursday, December22  –  an extract of this summary will be published in the ECSA Newsletter:

Geneva Peace Platform: Objective Sciences International (OSI)

ECSA was invited to Objective Sciences International Symposium Series at the UN in Geneva (Dec 12-16) 2016

The GENEVA FORUM 2016, organized by Objectif Sciences International (OSI), a member of the European Citizen Science Association (ECSA), took place at the UN Palais des Nations, Geneva. This represented the perfect opportunity to celebrate the 25 Anniversary of OSI. The Forum had a duration of five days and included four main conferences: Participatory Research and Citizen Science, Contributions and Challenges for Peace and Development for Participatory Research, Citizen Sciences and Fab Labs (presentation by Pia Viviani and Heiner Benking), CrowdFunding and CrowdInnovation; Pedagogy, Travel and Tourism; and the Rights of Nature.

Over 400 people from 65+ countries were registered, including 45 external speakers who gave presentations during the various conferences. The Forum provided a meeting opportunity for the members of OSI from all over the world and for engaging in dialog workshops.

This year the 5th annual conference dedicated to the Rights of Nature had the highest attendance ever. Among the participants were representatives from the UN office of “Harmony with Nature” and the Geneva mission of Bolivia. In the closing session it was agreed to extend the duration of this conference from just one afternoon to two full days for 2017.

The three other conferences saw their début during the Forum this year. The symposium dedicated to CITIZEN SCIENCE counted with sixteen abstract presentations. For 2017 more presentations are expected, and therefore the symposium design will count with multiple slots. This symposium was co-chaired by Heiner Benking (ECSA Advisory Board Member). He and Pia Viviani (Stiftung Science et Cité) presented ECSA in this presentation: Contributions and Challenges for Peace and Development for Participatory Research, Citizen Sciences and Fab Labs

Afterwards Heiner pitched the following exemplary best-practice cross-sector projects:

ABSTRACT #1  The BookBoXX – A civic vocational training, community building and cultural and media heritage project

SYNOPSIS and OUTLOOK  after 16 pitches a 5 minutes

Including:  ABSTRACT #2  THE WISDOM OF THE PEOPLE   –  RE-INVENTING DEMOCRACY across SCALES and VALUES/MINDSETS/PRIORITIES and  ABSTRACT #3  Socio-Ecological Development-Funding & “SDG – Leveraging Solutions” Meaningful solutions that matter across scales, sectors and cultures/times. See there see “REEFS” exemplary Leverage Solutions  project (PDF) publiahed in Mother Pelican: SDG  WIN WIN  WIN projects und poster presentation.   Mentioned were also other activities in the context of ECOSOC. This included the World Peace Gardens and Holistic Tourism Education (IHTEC) which is also part of the work done in the Global Commons Alliance and the GlobalTrust.

After the presentation phase, conversations experimented with the format of the SHARING SEEDS Magic Roundtables. This was a highlight as it was facilitated according to the principle of “sharing and gifting” in all symposia of the OSI week. In this methodology, embodied tokens help to condense and focus an immense wealth of inputs into rich round table discussions. The format can be considered as an Open-Space of 60 minutes, and includes a  market-place and dynamic encouragements and qualitative focusing and harvesting. See the Resource Page for further reflections on igniting intense exchanges.

The number of participants and the depth and spirit of this series of events was encouraging. Furthermore, progress was made towards considering the methods required to achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Overall, it amounted to a very interesting, productive, exhausting and intensive week at the United Nations in Geneva.

Side events:
A summary of the events of the week and an outlook for further events in Geneva in 2017 was presented to Cyril Ritchie, president of the John Knox International Reformed Center, a hospitality Center in the vicinity of the UNOU and Nicola Furey , Global Youth Conferences and Earth Focus Foundation. The next EARTHDAY anniversary event is scheduled for March 20th 2017 in Geneva  and takes place also elsewhere, not only around other UN centers around the globe.

Here you can find a report of the EARTH DAY EQUINOX Peacebell event in the Ariana Park at the UN Headquarter in Geneva 2011, ringing the Japanese Shinagawa Peace Bell and other events with John McConnell, Margaret Mead, Robert Muller, even in the beginning with Sithu U Thant in New York and Geneva, and later Vienna, Tokyo, Berlin, … over the decades under the umbrella of of the Earth Society Foundation and many others….

Another highlighted “side event” was an informal meetup with Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) at the opening of the exhibit “Geneve, sa gueule” by Sandrine Salerno, Conseillère administrative de la Ville de Genève. The exhibition highlights the diversity of the people in Geneva and is curated by, Ninian Hubert van Blijenburgh,  Agenda 21 – Ville durable (A21). This attracted the participants of the OSI multi-symposia and delayed the schedule of the last day. Good facilitators learn to juggle with the unexpected to return to a planned events’ agenda.

In summary: Thomas Egli, OSI president, kept the week as a bricoleur intuitively in good order as the event was designed well and open at the same time. Quite an experience and achievement… Quotes like “Surprise in Nature has to go hand-in-hand with Surprise in Groups” or  “Tipping Points need appropriate Leverage Points” were shared and received some attention (free after Donella Meadows, Club of Rome).

ALS – ICE BUCKET HERAUSFORDERUNG in Berlin angekommen – Angela Jansen und ALS-mobil

Filed under: Uncategorized — Heiner Benking @ 9:02 am

We only know him through “friends of friends”, telephone, e-mails, web-sites and study, all in a rush in 2 weeks…. See Profile

He was at a time we were thinking about opening the Anna-Lindh-Salon at CHATHAM HOUSE in London – so this sets the grid ! He was last minute replacement for an invitation of Alexander Chiristakis – but such is life.

The member of the HIGH COMMISSION is someone who thanks AMNESTY Int. and the UN a lot and showed personal integrity and daring ! maybe see:

He is invited for our ANNA-LINDH SALON here in BERLIN – if around – check in!

Check: Links at: [link]

Some 2nd ANNA-LINDH Salons has taken place June 17-24 with a special guest from Tunis, Judge Mokhtar Yahyaoui. We will need to remember the 10th Anniversary of maybe the most critical letter he wrote in is life on July 6, 2001 to his president Ben Ali ….. and see what it has to do with the Elections in Tunesia this autumn…. See High Commission and latest news here. See also his Chatham House presentation from London 4 weeks ago. Profile/Article in French (PDF)

I am rushing to polish our website so please check and follow our site: http://tagore-einstein-council.de
Tagore and Einstein have met in Berlin twice Tagore Celebrations Berlinand it became a budding deep friedship. The convesations and much more can be found at that site. One objective is make us “Westerneers” aware that there was not only Gandhi in India, but that Gandhi had a fatherly friend! So Tagore was travelling the world after his Nobel Prize, was bridging culture and agriculture, and eduacation from kindergarten to highte educations, created a unique university,…. and and and – I hope you like to study with us not only EAST-WEST Synthesis and check around the “windrose” of orientation and reference schemas and their “harmonisation” …. http://in-betweener.org/
For In-commers into the matter I can say, he was the head of a region, all people in India still sing their song and play his music, he was a real “renaissance being” I believe he would have smiled and told us that there was more than just one Western Renaissance. I recommend the last years conference NEW RENAISSANCE 3 where the keynote by Marilyn Wilhelm was very much about this matter! Enjoy all contributions at: http://www.scimednet.org/towards-a-new-renaissance-3-harmonising-spirituality-nature-and-health-2/ but do not miss: Dr. Marilyn Wilhelm: The Cosmos is a Kinship System and please check her Wilhelm Scholê http://www.wilhelmschole.org and was recently in Berlin as she shared the same passions like Tagore: Cultures, Education, Arts, Sciences, … but enabling Education nowadays has a modern fancy name: Entrepreneuship, so she subsumed it at the Entrepreneuship Summit:

Founding a school for integrated learning – Kurzvorstellung:Marilyn Wilhelm from entrepreneurship also do check her 11 minutes presentation !! http://www.entrepreneurship.de/artikel/entrepreneurship-education-founding-learning-video/

And there is more to added to a "wind-rose" synthesis when we want to takle modern global and Media Culture&Cyberculture!! challenges!! http://benking.de/meta-paradigm.htm
and see a simple, well packed question! do we go for Show or Schau !? http://benking.de/show-schau.htm
I recommed for example the name of Ralph Siu http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Siu and his Panetics Society (speakersbureau http://benking.de/isp-speakers.html), as there is a need not only for Lebenskunst – Art of Living, but also for Regierungskunst – Art of Participation, Deliberations & Governance. See Order and Orientation challenge
I believe Tagore would have seen in Ralph a “kindred spirit”. check out: TAO OF SCIENCE: http://www.newciv.org/ISSS_Primer/asem16rs.html, and the eulogies in Applying panetics: http://benking.de/applying-panetics1999.htm

The Cloud – or Last call / Final Calling wake-up call ?

Yesterdays neruption of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano called back lasting memories, a story from 1988, where in the press conference Prof. Degens from Hamburg was not ready to paint a picture of a lasting nightmare of an overheated planet or ice-age planet. (it was the major international event with Willy Brandt…. [more])
The media pushed hard but he refused to paint a nighmare scenario, as this would not be science he said roughly, the media should look back in earth history and make out there own conclusion, he only mentioned later that new might be only the degree of possible rapid change.
For people in environmental research this is obvious if we think twice, but it was for the media something they angrily commented: Scientists not telling what to expect and what is going on !
Now 22 year later this looks funny, now we know, even created possible ceilings and guard rails, as politics were more demanding than media, to have scientist do the forecast or outlook requested. But what is this IPCC knows and can predict the Future, specially when there are obviously only futures in plural and can not be predicted Neither in natural nor in social and cultural human worlds !
This is not a contrarian view ! I was reading with Ernst Ulrich von Weiszsäcker about CONTRARIANS already in the late 80ies, when he was in Bonn and Brussels, about these denying “CONTRARIANS” who refused to consider man-made impacts – on this considered stable and endless system of Planet Earth !
What an ignorance ! please see this article soon hitting the streets: “ignorance or compassion” http://benking.de/futures/ECOTHEE-ignorance-compassion.pdf or the work on GLOBAL CHANGE we introduced in late May 1990. Please wait for May 30th “Challenges to Science and Politics” touring exhibition.
At this point I can only link to the exhibition <a href="http://benking.de/Global-Change/system-earth-posters.html http://benking.de/Global-Change/system-earth-posters.html and EARTH IN TROUBLE ! http://benking.de/Global-Change/UN-climate-summit.html and check Human Dimensions and Human Responsibility with time and space horizons (Hans Jonas) http://benking.de/jonas-1993.html , as this is the time, likt with Mount StHelen where we can experience natures ! non-point polution impacts!

Why I call this piece? Last call / Final Calling ? Because I think we should follow up on this question: Do we need “New Science, new Language, new Thinking ?
HOW ABOUT? OLD and proven, traditional and NEW Thinking and Doing and Sharing ? http://quergeist.net/Peace-Laueats-Climate-Berlin-Oslo-selection.pdf

please come back later – we had challenging days these days and years and need to step back, consider deep and other questions and answers

Meanwhile follow the links and consider what the founder of this encyclopedia of systems and cybernetics said about complexity, surprise and predictability when we introduced the new edition:
http://benking.de/systems/encyclopedia/concepts-and-models.htm and maybe these concepts to consider being concrete and share common frames and schemas: http://benking.de/systems/encyclopedia/newterms/

In Santa Fe we learned that the more we study complexity, the more we are perplexed ! So let us step back, check the issues and context and not not consider we know whne we do not ! – or just need to meet at certain number to be safe and can continue to muddle trough as always, all heads deeep in the sands, fogs, dust, ashes….

Finally, what we experience today is not the last call ! Nature as icon in time has experienced much worse in times, but humanity is getting more fragile ever day, so we have to be on the watch on the proportions and consequences, the potential infliction of suffering. http://www.paneticsworldwide.org/
